One-of-a-kind Rescue Tool – Designed by Firefighters for Firefighters
The original LIFELINE® Rescue tool is a one-of-a-kind device designed by firefighters to protect firefighters. The concept of the LIFELINE ™ Self-Rescue Tool and Sheath was created by one of our principal owners, James Counsellor (Jay for short). Jay has been a firefighter for the past twenty-two years and is the ex-assistant fire chief of the municipality of Hawthorne, New Jersey. Jay has received several commendations, including the Hawthorne Fire Department Life Saving Award.
Several years ago, Jay saw a growing problem in the field with rising numbers of documented instances of firefighters becoming trapped or entangled in wires or cables, for example, when ceilings collapse. The entanglement often occurs in the area of the firefighter’s SCBA. Firefighters have tried to use wire cutters or other types of knives to attempt to free themselves from entanglement situations, but those methods proved unreliable and ineffective. Jay developed the concept of the LIFELINE® Self-Extraction Rescue Tool with the dream of providing each firefighter in this country with a device to help save those that place themselves in harm’s way every day. Extensive engineering collaboration, manufacturing R & D and field testing have resulted in the most highly advanced state-of-the-art cutting instruments ever made. Today, our tools are being used in 3 continents and across 7 countries.
Announcing the NEW 2nd Generation FIRE™ Series | Launched At @FDIC2019
Lifeline® Rescue Tools is proud to introduce the 2nd Generation LIFELINE™ Fire Series. Our newly updated tool features the latest developments in vision science. The result is an ultra-bright tool with fluorescent properties for increased visibility. The latest research in vision science tells us that the human eye is more sensitive to green frequencies than any other. Accordingly, Lifeline® has now developed a color of fluorescent green that is scientifically proven to be the most detectable by the human eye.
Most importantly, the fluorescent raw materials used to make Generation 2 is 100% compatible with the DuPont Zytel® heat resistant thermoplastic that is at the heart of Lifeline’s handles and sheaths. Now, Gen 2 FIRE™ is a triple threat – highly aggressive cutting serrations; heat resistant up to 572F and ultra-bright fluorescent properties for increased visibility.

*Additional Firefighting-specific Features:
High Tech Heat Treatment In addition to a highly aggressive patent pending serrated blade, the LIFELINE® Rescue Tool manufacturing process includes heat treated to a Rockwell of 59-60, then given a cryogenic treatment which slowly cools the tool in a controlled bath of liquid nitrogen. This highly advanced heat treat process improves the microstructure of the 440c stainless steel, decreases residual stresses and increases toughness and dimensional stability.
Heat Resistant Handles: The handles on the tool are equally technologically advanced. The base model handles are high-temperature injection molded using DuPont Zytel® Heat Resistant Thermoplastic and have a melting point of approximately 600 °F. The upgraded handles are made of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Carbon and precision cut by LIFELINE’s CNC routers. The carbon handles have a melting point of 3600 °F and are the same material used on the wings of the Space Shuttle.
Watch LIFELINE® Rescue Tool in Action
While driving southbound on Route 208, I witnessed a passenger vehicle veer right into the shoulder and make contact with a snowbank and guard rail then flip to stop on its hood and roof. I dismounted my vehicle with my Lifeline Extrication Tool in hand. Upon further sizeup of the vehicle, I found that the fuel tank was leaking. After performing a rapid physical assessment, I braced the victim with my shoulder, removed the Lifeline Extrication Tool from its sheath, found a safe area away from the victim’s’ body and with a few passes of the tools’ teeth, I freed the victim from the seat belt with ease.
I’m a Heavy Equipment Operator/Driver on Rescue 2 with the Milwaukee Fire Department. I have been using the LifeLine SRK for 4 months now and absolutely love this knife for vehicle extractions. This knife/tool is very versatile and has replaced many tools in my pocket. It breaks car windows with ease and cuts through braided wire quickly. I have used it to cut through a laminated front windshield and it still has a sharp edge to cut any seat belt. The sheath and knife hang conveniently from my bunker coat and can be deployed quickly by myself with one hand or anyone standing close to me. In my opinion, this knife is worth every penny and couple it with its guarantee it becomes priceless.
We have had an opportunity to test the Lifeline Rescue Tool in our flashover facility. After multiple evaluations, the tools have held up and performed flawlessly. Our instructors were impressed with the design and quality of the tool.
